Land and outdoors

Low wall, outdoor stairs and grade change plan, to scale

A sloping lot: retaining walls, slopes, steps and levels.

The plan opens on "Sloping lot", a 15.00 m (49' 3") by 12.00 m (39' 4") rectangle (180.00 m² (1,938 sq ft)) that you correct to your own measurements. Already in place: retaining wall, outdoor stairs, 2 × level marker, slope.

How to use it

  1. Draw the lot and place a level marker at the top and at the bottom of the slope.
  2. Write the height of each marker in its name.
  3. Place the walls: the small ticks point downhill.
  4. Add the steps: count one step per 18 cm (7 in) of rise.

What this plan is, and what it is not

A retaining wall more than 1 m (3 ft) high generally requires an engineer's plan and a permit: this plan is for preparing the project, not for calculating it.
